Grad. Assistant Salary Increases Effective July 1
Tuesday, April 30, 2024
We are pleased to announce that, for FY 2025, there will be a 4% increase in the graduate assistantship base annual rate. This year’s increase will be effective July 1, 2024, and will increase the minimum fiscal-year, full-time rates to $59,540 for master’s students and $64,376 for doctoral students.
This increase, which is self-funded by UGA, recognizes the increased cost of living for graduate students. For assistantships supported through externally sponsored projects, Principal Investigators should fund the full 4% increase through existing awards. Sponsored projects should have 3% increases included in their budgets; therefore, the university will fund the additional 1% for those graduate assistants paid from grants and contracts.
We are grateful that the University of Georgia has now increased graduate assistant base stipends by 2% to 5% in nine of the last ten years, resulting in a cumulative increase of 32.5% ($15,887) over that time for doctoral students. These self-funded increases reflect our ongoing commitment to improving graduate assistant compensation and enhancing the educational experience of our graduate students.
